NB: The Protection of Personal Information Bill has nothing to do with the Protection of State

Information Bill or “Secrecy Bill”. It could be detrimental to your organisation if you get the

two confused and do not start making plans to comply.

Background of the Seminar

The Protection of Personal Information Bill entirely changes the way business is able to operate and will have

massive ramifications for Companies. Companies will need to be transparent with data subjects in how they

deal with Personal Information.

The Protection of Personal Information Act will be the overriding Act concerning information and data

The Protection of Personal Information Bill was approved by the National Assembly on the 20 August 2013. It

is now sitting with President Zuma awaiting his signature to bring the Act into effect.

When this bill is signed into law companies will have 1 year in order to comply
